Electronic Poker is a popular game that is able to be bet on in casinos all over the world, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are very simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the highest assemblage of cards as you can in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is much the same as a regular game of poker, apart from the line of contact with any other players. Of course, tactics employed during a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the enthusiast puts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and presses the play button. A hand of five cards will then be "dealt" on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has decided on which cards he or she would like to retain, they should press ‘draw’, which will mean that any new cards are handed out if desired. The round is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the pay out schedule can vary from game to game, so that knowledgeable players are agile enough to choose the most money-making game each and every time.

Once the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Further, several versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to increase their profits, in which case a further round is played. There are also differences between individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other differing elements to increase playability.
