Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be played in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your home computer, through an Internet connection. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to achieve the greatest combination of cards as you can in order to win money. On this account it’s very similar as a normal game of poker, minus the involvement with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and presses the deal button. A five card hand will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and bettors will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the bettor wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has selected which cards she would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be given out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Typically, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful enthusiasts are agile enough to pick the most profitable game each and every time.

As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either decide to continue on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game give the player an opportunity to double their profits, in which situation another game is played. There are also differences among individual machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
