Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be enjoyed in casinos around the world, or alternatively at your house on your computer, through a net connection. The regulations are very simple and consist of the player trying to achieve the highest assemblage of cards achievable in order to win money. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, without the involvement with any other players. Of course, methods used in a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker begins when the player inserts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers should now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the enthusiast has chosen which cards he wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.

Generally, the lowest succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can change from game to game, so that knowledgeable players are agile enough to choose the most beneficial machine each instance.

After the first round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that has been won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the player an opportunity to double their profits, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also variations between specific machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
