Video Poker is a favored game that usually will be gambled on in casinos all over the globe, or in your house on your computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are very straightforward and involve the player trying to get the highest combination of cards achievable in order to come away with cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, without the line of contact with other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the player puts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and pushes the play button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘given out’ on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and bettors will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be handed out if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that experienced enthusiasts are agile enough to choose the most beneficial game each time.

After the first round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, several versions of the game give the enthusiast an opportunity to double their winnings, in which case a further game is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
